Preemadonna founders Pree Walia and Casey Schulz are all about empowering women and combining technology with beauty. They think beauty and smarts are not contradictory identities. Casey is a robotics engineer who has worked with NASA and she’s also into crafts! And Pree works as a domestic violence counsellor and she is a beauty junkie. They hope to improve the technology in the daily lives of women with tools relevant to their lifestyles.
Nailbot is their first product. It is a printer for nails and you can print any image you have on your phone directly to your nails, you just have to coat them with white nail polish first. The ink in the printer lasts roughly about 5,000 manicures and they hope to develop the Nailbot so it uses nail polish instead of ink.
They said they made the product for creative girls, making a product that they would love. They view nail art to be a creative form of expression and wanted to create Nailbot to make this process easier. So instead of spending hours to get a nail art, creative women can easily print on any image they want.
They are also working on creating programs where women can create and share their art. Their aim is to get young girls and women involved in technology and also create a community.
It is also a space for learning and business for young girls. Research shows 92 percent of girls between 9 and 17 years old use some sort of nail product, which makes nail the biggest market in cosmetics. And who better to design nail art for young girls than themselves. Young designers can both express themselves and enter a market where their work will be more than welcome.
The Nailbot will launch in 2016 but so far it was awarded first runner up at Silicon Valley Robotics’ 2015 Robot Launch. Right now Preemadonna is collecting ambassadors in three platforms, social bee, hacker and artist. So every women can join their cause.
