Lesbian celebrities are very good example for LGBTIQ community because there are exposed to discriminations. For knowing concept of freedom, famous people are so critic at this step. Lesbian celebrities who came out are listed below with their words.
One of the lesbian celebrities is Cynthia Nixon. Everybody knows her from Sex and the City TV series. She told about her sexual identity that “I gave a speech recently, an empowerment speech to a gay audience. It included the line ‘I’ve been straight. I’ve been gay, and gay is better.’ And they tried to get me to change it because they said it implies that homosexuality can be a choice. And for me, it is a choice. I understand that for many people it’s not. But for me, it’s a choice, and you don’t get to define my gayness for me.”
She continues that “A certain section of our community is very concerned that it not be seen as a choice, because if it’s a choice, then we could opt out. I say it doesn’t matter if we flew here or we swam here. It matters that we are here and we are one group and let us stop trying to make a litmus test for who is considered gay and who is not.” These words caused the controversial issues in LGBTIQ community. Because is it really a selectable topic or not. Maybe she is not happy with sexual identity.
In 1997, she has come out her sexual identity in TV shows. She has a different area in lesbian celebrities because she came out unconsciously. She never wants to be a political person in LGBTIQ rights. However sometimes life goes like that unawares situations. She told that “It was only meant to be, you know, just being honest, and it became this snowball, this avalanche, that just got bigger and bigger and bigger. There was no stopping it. It turned into people not liking me because they thought that I was somehow political all of a sudden. It was the last thing. I wanted to do, to be political.” Whether she wants to be a political person or not, the result will be the same.
Tracy Chapman never talks about her sexuality but she dates so many women. According to our research, there is no any explanation about her sexual identity. But her ex-girlfriend told that about their relationship “I would never do that. My life is not to be somebody else’s impact – you know what I mean? And it was delicious and lovely and wonderful and I totally enjoyed it and I was completely in love with her but it was not anybody’s business but ours.” Okay I agree with her, it is nobody’s business but for LGBTIQ community lesbian celebrities are a very crucial point for their rights.
