What do you share on Instagram when you have thousands of followers? How do you keep them and keep them coming? We don’t know… But looking at Stina Sanders we can tell how you can lose them.
Stina Sanders is a London based model who has done works for publications like Maxim and FHM. You can imagine through her line of modelling she is not shy to show some skin and that’s what her Instagram followers were used to.
Sander’s Instagram feed used to have tons of bikini shots in exotic locations. However after Essena O’Neill exposed social media for what it was, she changed her mind. O’Neill changed all her Instagram captions telling the real story behind the photos, so Sanders changed the genre of her Instagram telling the real story of her life.
Her view on Instagram was that it was an escape from reality and a place to seek inspiration in unrealistic standards. So she put up photos of her real life and not staged bikini shots. These photos included her visit to therapy sessions, her facial hair treatment, tired feet and even her bowel movements.
Needless to say she scared off some of her followers, and by some we mean thousands! She said she understood if it was too much for them. Seeing the real life of someone they just wanted to see the constructed perfection of could be not what some people signed off for. But still she wanted to get the message out there that no one is perfect.
Also she shed a light on the fact that even though people want to know about the lives of these celebrities they follow, they don’t really want to know the whole story. Followers do not want to be a part of these people’s journey through life; they just want content that is based on idealized perfection. It is because of people like Stina Sanders and Essena O’Neill that we are beginning to accept that such “perfect” lives are completely staged.
