Break-ups are always difficult, especially when you realise how horrible of a relationship you were in once its over. Brittaney Lynn Shane ended her relationship with two-year boyfriend and it was then she realised how her emotionally abusive boyfriend tormented her self-esteem through their entire relationship.
She shared her story and how she overcame her loss of confidence on a Facebook post. Her emotionally abusive boyfriend constantly criticised her appearance and made her feel unworthy of love.
Everything from the length of her hair to its colour, from her tattoos to her make-up habits, from her weight to her stretch marks; everything that made Shane who she was, her emotionally abusive boyfriend would attack. So she changed her hair, her style and her eating habits to please him. Her emotionally abusive boyfriend made her feel like she was not good enough for him and even the break-up was all her fault. And for months Shane believed this to be true.
But after a few months she realised the reality of the situation and in her post said “But finally I started to see the truth. You weren’t out of my league. I was out of yours. I wasn’t the one who wasn’t good enough for you. You were the one who wasn’t good enough for me. You couldn’t accept me for who I was. When I took you the way you were. Your many many many flaws and everything else that was there.”
In her long post she also added “So now here I am a few months later. My hair is past my shoulders. My hair is bright red. I’ve got a new tattoo. New piercings. Started wearing makeup again. I eat whatever I want whenever I want and weigh 135 pounds. I still have my stretch marks.
And I’ve finally gotten my confidence back…”
