The two talented actresses Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence unite in their stance against online criticism. Anne Hathaway had her share of online hatred back in 2013 with almost an online campaign on Hatha-hate. Most of these people had absolutely no reason to hate Hathaway and were coming up with ridiculous things like “i hate her face”, “she is boring”, “she ruins every movie she’s in”. More often than not they were coming up with reasons not to like her. Anne Hathaway on the other hand was truly upset by this hate and for a time said she identified with being the victim. But she eventually recovered and got back up on her feet.
Fast forward to 2016 the same celebrity shaming is happening to Jennifer Lawrence. This time the hatred isn’t ‘just because’. The complete turn everyone made from loving Lawrence one second to hating her the next happened because one joke Lawrence made. In the Golden Globes, while being interviewed, Lawrence called out a reporter looking at his phone saying “You can’t live your whole life behind your phone, bro,” and continued “You gotta live in the moment.” This small joke escalated quickly into everyone hating her and calling her entitled, rude, humiliating, ignorant and simply saying fame had finally got to her. But this is much more than what Lawrence said, this is all about people and the media building a star up only to tear her down, and this only seems to be happening to female stars.
Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence are both put in similar situations and Hathaway being through this before is there to support Lawrence and call out this sexist hatred.
Both Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence are amazingly talented actresses and this hatred towards female stars is definitely something everyone should understand and stop doing.
